please help us continue dave's great work

On June 16th my brother Dave lost his battle with colon cancer. We are still stunned by his loss. Many have asked where to send donations in memory of Dave, and as a family we would like to point you towards the fund we’ve established in his name. We will be honoring Dave by giving a gift to two of the organizations where he had a significant impact: Hayfield Secondary School and The Pass/Tremaine Tennis and Education Foundation. 

As principal of Hayfield Secondary School, Dave had a huge effect on this school and its teachers, parents, and students. If you saw him in the last few years, chances are he was wearing bright orange and showing his school spirit, and he has been credited by the community for changing the entire climate of Hayfield for the better. Working with the school administrators, we have established a scholarship in his name and will also be making a gift to the school towards the programs he was passionate about.

Dave had a lifelong passion for the sport of tennis. He played at the University of South Carolina and also coached after college. He was active in the tennis community, including serving on the board of the Bob Pass Tennis and Education Foundation, which will soon be renamed the Pass/Tremaine Tennis and Education Foundation. Donations will be made to the foundation to support its mission to provide underprivileged youth the opportunity to better their lives through the game of tennis. 

As a family, we are collecting donations to one single fund and then will make our gifts from there. It’s such a small thing, but it’s the least we can do to further Dave’s work and influence. There is no obligation here, merely an opportunity to participate.

in memoriam... dave tremaine

Humanity lost one of its most exemplary definitions yesterday afternoon when Dave Tremaine passed away following a three-year bout with cancer.

Most all of us on this side of the fence met Jeff's brother on his various visits out to California, or while filming on location for jackass, Wildboyz, and Bad Grandpa when he would hit-and-run the set for a few days (often making cameo appearances), and the impression he left on all was consistently of long-lasting quality and you would always look forward to the next (likely shirtless) encounter.

Many of us knew him as Big Dave—not only because he was a towering 6' 5" in stature, but the indisputable fact his personality was even larger. He had a big smile, big laugh, big enthusiasm, and an even bigger love for his family, friends, and the students of Hayfield Secondary School in Alexandria, Virginia, where he was hands down the best principal a school could ever hope to have stationed at its head. The school held a candlelight vigil in Dave's honor last night, and the consequent outpouring of love and support was of tremendous testament to his impact on the community.

To say Dave left us too soon is a horrible understatement, but while here he gave life everything he had: full bore, non-stop, and always with indefatigable optimism and spirit—especially so throughout the past three years. We are all better people for having known him, and though there is now a sudden void left in his wake, the unforgettably awesome memories we have of him and his love for life are a welcome solace of unquantifiable proportion. He was simply an outstanding human being. And he never reneged on a bet. Ever.

You will be missed, Dave. Big time.
